As many as there should be.

    (Poor attempt at sounding mystical)

I'm not a goth or a rock lover or a grunger- whatever one is? At my college because in the majority of us didn't know anyone in lessons to start with so we got to know loads of people you wouldn't think you'd get on with. If you only get know people with the same interests life gets boring.

Yep, be open-minded. You're going to be a medic, narrow-mindedness will get you nowhere.

well personally i think there is something wrong with that!! (especially if ur gonna be a doctor)

if people aren't willing to integrate and socialise with people from other cultures where just gonna turn even more into a mini america.

after all whats the point in only experiencing one little niche as a lifestyle when u can have it all

I agree!! If your going to be a doctor you need to be able to relate to people from all backgrounds with all interests. You can't act funny around a patient just because they're dressed a a goth etc.. You have to have an open mind! When it comes down to it we are all the same underneath it's just that people have different ways of expressing themselves!!

I can understand the appeal of having a group of people you feel share you're interests around you but surely you'll get more out of uni by mixing with everyone (we're not that bad lol;))!!

    i fully agree with tig220

thts one of the main reasons i wanna go 2 uni, because of the opportunity of interacting with a wide diversity of students.

I second (or fifth) that! Im an asian (pakistani kind lol) and all of my close frends are white (or gora for those in the know hehe). And thats not how i selected it thats just how it happened to turn out like (or as someone in some random tele program i was watchin once sed "thats how d cookie crumbles"). At college during lessons where I didnt have any of my old school frends I made frends with ppl who I wouldnt have fort id have gotten on with so give ppl a chance - they might just surprise u! :)

This post is not aimed at the originator of this thread but more so at the issue that the thread has risen.

I can understand wanting to be around people that are similar to yourself, but if you are coming to university to be in the same situation that you was in before medical school then why have you choosen to spend all that money to come to a different city? Change is good for everyone.

Also think about this... Imagine the uproar that would have happened if the original question had been not how many asians are at the medical school but how many whites are here. Then consider, was the original question not slightly racist in origin, whether being meant to or not?

I wanna know too, I'm not being racist because I want there to be Asians there. A lot, like King's College in London. Is this school near London, cause I know that there are a lot of Asians there.

Depends how you look at it, Hull and York are close from an American's point of view >_>

I'd say its not close to london but then again HYMS is alot closer than say St Andrews!! Though to be honest Hull and york are both about an hour further away from london than where i live and it's not a day trip coz you'd spend too much time travelling!! There are good transport links at both sites so it is easy enough!!
I think that there are large asian populations in birmingham and leicester but nowadays there is no city which doesn't have a mixture of people of different ethnicities!! The UK is becoming very multicultural!! ( yes i have been revising migration and multiculturalism for geography;)). I wouldn't let that be your main factor for choosing a uni but i suppose its whatever is most important to you.
