I've been helping alot of students put together statements over the last year, as well as my own, and just thought I'd share some of the sites that I found helpful (mind you New Media medicine is prob the best I've come across).

One of the best sites on writing a personal statement I've recently come across with advice on how to tackle the "Why medicine?", as well as your introductory paragraph.

Added a few more pages, bear in mind some are a bit "americany" and may not conform with the UCAS structure, but they give good guidelines to certain subsection construction: academic background, work experience.....

I would say you don't need other medical experience, IF you've got caring experience. BUT if you talk about vetinary w/e you're going to raise obvious questions about why you're now applying for human medicine. You presumably have an answer to this question so make sure you state it. (In my PS I talked about journalism w/e and how this made me focus on what I wanted from a career - such as interaction with people, opportunity to help, and constant challenge - which lead me to medicine.)

Of course if you are able to get more medical work experience then take it!
